Through my recent experience in fights, as an attacker, I have a few point to share:
1. If you do not show fear or pain, your opponent gonna get discouraged.
2. Its not just a physical and mental war, its also a psychological war. If you can play with his mind by taunting, showmanship and other tactics, it changes the way he looks at you. Study the games of Connon Mcgregor in MMA, Devon Larret in arm-wrestling etc.
3. Practice a lot to keep your eyes open by splashing water in in your face daily. This is gonna help you when you are taking the hits.

My thoughts from today's sparring:

For new players, during the attack, try to get in close as oppose to fall back. This is gonna do two things:
1. On the psychological level, the opponent gonna be afraid of you.
2. It's gonna help you not get hit as well.
3. Its gonna open so many windows for close quarter attacks.
